Hya, I'm looking for a 'proper' mtb under £600 and have narrowed it down to 2 contenders, the Voodoo Braag and the Trek Marlin 5. Any ideas on which one to go for?
Thanks

Hello Wolfe and :welcome: to the forum.

Always a good idea to give links so we know which particular bikes you're referring to and saves time for members trying to find them

I'd say there not much difference between them, the Halfords bike has Microshift derailleurs and the Trek Shimano Altis, 8 speed against 9 on the Braag. Both have hydraulic brakes and similar fork.
Where are you going to be using it? Exclusively off road or a mix with road work?

Hi. My son and I got Trek Marlins for Christmas last year. We are far from MTB experts, as this was when we started cycling off-road, but we both adore our Marlins. They got great reviews and feel like superb value for money. I don't hesitate to recommend it.

In that case you might find a hybrid with a solid fork might be better bet, it’ll certainly be quicker on the road and up hills. Many hybrids are now mountain bike ‘lite’ so you’ll get damping from the bigger tyres. MTBs at that price point are going to have a rudimentary fork, just a tube with a spring inside. The money saved on the fork will translate into better components elsewhere on the bike.
Just a thought.
