Got similar.
Stopped working after a winter's use, switches itself on and off at whim.
Apparently handlebar vibrations are bad for torches.
Use it it to hunt slugs in the garden now

Pat's just a big ray of sunshine sometimes

Lots of people use torches, try it and see.
I only stated my experience: it was not cheap either, £ 30.00 from TorchyBoy, plus I had to buy a charger and the batteries.
Hopefully @BigonaBianchi will have bought a better torch than mine turned out to be.

That'll be the vibrations which cause the battery to briefly lose contact from the lamp head. The light interprets that as the switch being used to change mode, so you get to experience the light changing mode or turning itself on or off. If you wrap a bit of insulating tape round the battery so it fits more snugly in the tube and bend the spring at the bottom out a bit hopefully the battery will be held in place a bit better.

I bought my sons some torches which look exactly like that from DealExtreme. They run off one AA battery. They are excellent little torches and on the right setting, throw a very intense spotlight across fields at night. We run them on AA rechargeables. I'm not sure how good the beam would be as a bike light though. These ones are just on/off clicky switch with no modes. Cost about a fiver if I recall correctly..

Cheers for the tip, will try this.
