I have noticed something.
Whenever I see a BSO being ridden by the baseball cap / beany hat brigade, they always seem to be in such a low gear, that even their manic 120rpm peddling results in nothing much quicker than walking pace. Have others noticed this also?
Why do they ride in such a low gear?
I am tempted to shout at them to try shifting up a bit, but I fear, I my advice would not be well received.

They have only just stolen it and aren't used to changing gear yet!

I have not noticed such behaviour, but don't shout, shouting has never been a good way of passing on advice.

Why don't you just mind your own business?

Why the attitude?
I was just making a point about something curious that I have noticed.

Attitude...attitude!

This coming from someone who has stereotyped both rider and bike in their OP.

Here speaketh Cycle King's top customer

If I were to be so rude and generalise I would say that they (they being cyclists of a BSO variety) are more likely noisey dry chain grinders, and I too was part of this club for some while.

It really pains me to see people riding around on badly set up bikes, I once stopped a girl with her forks on backwards (ASDA bike) and set them right for her. I have overtaken cyclists straining along a quiet country lane with the saddle far too low and the gears all wrong then waited at the next junction so as to "fall into conversation" with them and set their bikes up right. It's amazing how ignorant people are. My son's friends ride around on inappropriate bikes with broken gears and brakes and the seats the wrong height because their parents don't know any better.

I thought the advice was to spin and not to grind so the what is the problem if they ride around in a low gear?
