Hi guys,

I am planning an a big ride tomorrow 48 miles in total, so I figured I would give my bike the once over, so brakes and gears adjusred, tyres checked and so on, I gave the pedals a pull from side to side to check the bearings for wear, I felt a little bit of movement.

So I checked my maintenance book and it says to make sure the nuts are tight, but as you can see from the pictures you cant really get to see the crank nuts to tighten them, so I dont know weather they are an allen key or socket job.

Should I take my long nose pliers and pull back the stuff thats covering the crank nuts?

There is not any creaking noises when im riding and to be honest I cant feel the movement when im riding, but my book says there should be no rocking movement at all.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

John

Resolved........

It turns out that the silver things covering the bottom braket nuts were end caps that come out with a small screw driver which gave me clear access, a 14mm socket fitted the nuts which allowed me to tighten them up, they didnt need much, see pictures below.

Have fun!
It's 62 miles for a metric century.
