my wife has a problematic bottom bracket (matron); it's a halfords job and basically it looks like the non drive side cartridge fixing collar has loosened and there is now quite a lot of play in the crank assembly, although it is ridable.
is it likely to be just this (and thus a cheap job from lbs, not having the tools to hand to do it myself), or potentially a whole new unit required? i would have thought a complete bb failure would be rather more catastrophic, but it's not something i'm an expert on.
