Hi,
I have a Carrera Vanquish (2012 model) and my bottom bracket now has some movement. i.e. If I hold both peddles they move from the bracket through the frame (not round and round, I know thats how peddles work!! ;) )

I presume this is where the bottom bracket has just come loose, and needs either (a) tightening, (b) replacing.

A search says that the bottom bracket is a "Chin Haur sealed cartridge square taper steel". What ever that is? I though cannot find any idea of size, dimensions anything that will help me if I need to replace said item.

Also are either of those jobs quite difficult? I am a reasonably competent mechanic, most things I can do, but I am also aware of my limits. The bike is my daily commuter so I would like to limit the time off the road (ie if its too difficult a job, better off taking it to my local shop).

Thank you in advance for your help.

James

I don't know the specific replacement part, but yes, very easy to remove and install new. You'll need a bottom bracket remover tool. Hopefully someone on the forum will have replaced the same unit in the past. Rats - forgot you need the crank remover. Well done @User

2012 Spec says "Bottom Bracket Height (cm) 27"

Aside from the crank extractor and BB tool, you will also need to know the axle length of the old BB - and whether it is JIS or ISO taper. Other than that, it's a 20 minute job to replace.

Can I also add - 'pedals' - not 'peddles'

Cheers guys.

All very helpful. I can get on with that. I will check the tools, I bought a collection of tools a while back, seem to have all been good so far. Will let you know how I get on.
