Bottom Bracket woes

I have been having a bit of trouble with my fixie.

I now have a Velo orange Threadless Bottom bracket that is really good quality and i don't have any problems with it unwinding.

The axle length is 107mm which is the recommended length for a stronglight 2000 to give me the chain line i'm after. What i find is the drive side of the axle is a little shorter than the non drive side and my crank, when fully screwed in, grinds against the cap.
I have made a shim for it, so it the crank sit a little out from them caps, but i find this is just a temporary measure and i have to clean and create another. I have also filed down the offending bit of the crank to stop the grinding, but it's still a little close.

What i was thinking of doing, and i wouldn't do this with a traditional Bottom bracket, is flip it around so the section that is screwed into the main body is on the drive side.

Just wanted to know what people think of that idea?

Cheers,

Don't try that. TBH you will be better getting a longer BB - I use 110mm on my fixed

Just buy a Shimano UN54 for about £15 and be done with it. Fit and forget cartridge BB.

the reason i have a threadless BB is because the threading in the BB shell is to worn.
I first used a Shimano UN54 when building the bike but the drive side doesn't have enough thread for it to hold.

Ah... I see.....

The thread less might work the wrong way round but could be prone to coming undone being installed not in accordance with specs.

I gave velo orange an email and they said it should be ok and can't see why it'll be a problem.

Good to get a few opinions though.

Cheers Foss.

Didn't realise the thread was shot. Thing is the thread less BB probably has more adjustment possibilities than standard BB.
