The chainring side unscrews clockwise, i.e. the opposite way to normal.
The other side unscrews anticlockwise as normal.

though there are simpler more generic things using a screw-in bolt and big washer.
The normal BB tool is an abomination - almost guaranteed to slip with anything problematical.

Put the tool in place. Get the original crank fixing nut and a big washer. Screw the nut in back and the big washer will hold the tool in place. One mighty heave and you can remove nut and washer.
Copper grease is not a lube. Just the opposite. It will wreck your bearings.When you re-assemble, recommend using copper anti-seize grease to lube up with.
