Bottom bracket sounds like a bag of nails..........

The bottom bracket on my Pinarello Catena (fixed gear) sounded terrible. So I changed it for a shiny new Token one. Only it still sounds like a bag of nails. Any suggestions? It's worse under load (i.e when pushing hard). The clicks are regular, in time with pedal rotation, ruling out wheels/hubs. It's not the pedals. As it's fixed gear, there's not a lot else it can be. I removed the new BB, greased the threads well. No change. I removed it again and used PTFE tape. No change. Next step will be to throw the bike into the canal unless someone can offer some words of wisdom.

Sure it's even coming from that area? I once had a noise that I was certain was coming from down the bottom somewhere - pedals, crank, BB.. Could very possibly have been any or all. What I knew for certain was that it was regular, consistent and very irritating. I greased and reseated everything I could to no avail and eventually got used to it and learned to block it out. After some months I realised it was actually coming from the front wheel. I guess it's the action of sound bouncing around hollow tubes that means noises on bikes aren't always coming from where they appear to be...

Could it be seat post /saddle related if it's in time with your pedalling?

It doesn't, I had a regular click especially when out of the saddle that I was sure was the BB but it wasn't.
Turned out to be a spoke on the rear wheel, the spoke eventually broke and after putting on my spare wheel the clicks vanished.

It can be a right pain finding noises, all the other suggestions are valid, it's a question of eliminating them one by one.

Chain too tight and or worn. A new chain on a worn rear sprocket makes a terrible noise.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Close inspection completed - can't see any cracks. Next step is to put the winter wheels on to try and eliminate them. Such fun.
