Anyone know the BB size on an 08 vanquish?
I have a feeling its 68x108 Isis
Mine has developed some play in the axle so I know its on the way out, how much more is it rideable as I intend to use it for longer rides as it has guards on.

Don't know what size sorry. I kept riding my square taper cartridge in my Allez for over 4000 miles after I first detected play. I was typically under 10 stone though and deterioration was slow. I've only just replaced it as the chainrings were starting to weave. I would have replaced it earlier but until it came out I didn't know what size I needed.

Incidentally it was 113mm and the replacement 113mm was actually 115mm , so I got another.

You can get away with riding cartridge bearing ISIS or square taper when there is play, but it will need replacement soon. I reccon its square taper ! My sons 2012 Carrera MTB is square taper cartridge

Yes, if you have a cartridge BB you cannot damage anything by continuing to ride it as you will bin the whole thing. Worth checking that the play is in the BB though as if the crank is coming loose, you can ruin it within a few miles. A replacement Shimano cartridge can be had for not much more than a tenner, in square taper format. May be a bit more for ISIS or Octalink. The cheapest ones with a plastic cup are best avoided, but something like an UN55 will prove fine. I have never seen a great advantage in spending more unless you are trying to keep weight to an absolute minimum.

Yep, Avoid the Plastic cup ones if possible. You'll get more hissed off with the clunk. The bearings will run smooth, but they have worn enough for movement. My MTB used to eat BB's - i.e. slight play, but no roughness.

As it happens, I'm in the market for a square taper BB too  I made a note of the Uno55 and will order one.

You can measure the size yourselve. 68 is the size of the BB shell that holds the BB on your bike. The 108 is the length of the spindle. SS, double and tripple will require a different length.

Are both cups made of metal on the Uno55? Can't tell from the description.

Now heres a quandry , the one fitted i reckon is a bit small as my heels are a bit close to the chain stays even though my cleats are set right so if i go for a 113 i assume it will still fit but just means the crank arms will be a little further out ?

You could - but it may adversely affect your chain line and it will also possibly cause problems with your front derailleur if it can't throw out far enough.

I'm not an expert on these things, but mine had a lot of play in it, and the local shop couldn't fit me for a while, so planned to take it to a remoter location. However a few days it failed catastrophically and the bike was unrideable. Lucky I was less than a mile from a station, that took me to a station near the local shop. I went to leave it with them until they had time to attend to it, but - bless them - they fixed it on the spot.

I wouldn't go on a long ride with a dying BB.
