bottom bracket repair

ive seen this frame for sale local on ebay and im thinking of buying it to makes a fixie

from the description it needs a repair to the threads for the bottom bracket. would a local engineering firm be able to repair the threads and what would be the likley cost. We havent got a LBS that would do this kind of repair anymore

The cup he's left in is aluminium so it's likely not seriously damaged the steel BB threading. Perhaps he put the lefthand cup in righthand side. If the thread has gone a good frame-builder would ream and sleeve it at a cost. Otherwise you might be able to find a threadless BB cartridge. Mavic used to make one, and I think there are/were others - you'd have to investigate.

If the cup is alloy & the frame is steel, there may only be very superficial thread damage.
(If the frame is quite old, it may even be an Italian BB shell, both sides right hand threads.)
