Hi, I hope someone may be able to help. My eight month old bike has developed an annoying click from the right hand side of the bottom bracket, its fairly quiet but noisy enough to be a nuisance.
It happens once every revolution and if I take the pressure off that peddle and peddle using only the left foot it stops.
Any ideas?
Thanks

What's the make/model of bike? Or better still, do you know the type of BB? It may be that is just needs to be stripped and cleaned, but if you're unsure how to do this, perhaps get someone/youtube to show you how.

Clicks and squeaks can be hard to track down on a bike. In addition to the above suggestion, try checking that the cranks are correctly tightened. It could also be that the pedals require stripping and lubricating.

I have had very similar problems myself in the past. On one occasion it turned out to be the end of the gear cable just catching my shoe as I rode and on another it was the shoelace tapping on the crank every revolution. In both cases the cause wasn't obvious and it took a few rides to find it.

My particular experience was the BB was goosed and the bearings had collapsed. Lets hope you are a little more fortunate! At worst it's around £30 for a replacement BB but no idea what the bike shop would charge for the fitting as mine was done under warranty. Good luck.

More likely to be the interface between crank and BB than the BB bearings althought the latter is not impossible.
I'm guessing on a bike this price its square taper ? Can you tighten the bolt that holds the crank on ?

Agreed, I would be surprised, unless the bike has been given a hammering, for a square taper to go after 8 months.

It's not a hard job to remove, clean and re-install, though some particular tools are required (crank extractor, BB shell remover). Time to get a basic bike tool kit...?

Have a good look at the pedals first of all. Poorly lubricated and poorly adjusted bearings are not uncommon on factory fit pedals.

Thanks all.
It was indeed the pedal! Seems so obvious now! a bit of lubrication and a lovely quiet ride to work again.

Do you have clipless pedals? If so, I would suggest removing and cleaning the cleat.

If not then do the same... with the seatpost, assuming it happens when you are in the saddle. I bet it's not the BB
