Bottom Bracket coming loose

After doing up my Raleigh i have a niggling problem.

I first tried to fit a stronglight bottom bracket. It went in well on the drive side, but on the none drive side it felt like the cap was two wide. I could never get it in all the way... just didn't go in propperly.

So i got a Shimano BB. the none drive side went in well, very nice fit compared to the stronglight. But the Drive side felt a very tiny little bit loose. Whenit is in all the way it just keeps turning (not a good sign). It now has come out a little and i can hear the BB creaking when i'm hard on the pedals. And the crank arms wobble a little.

I was thinking of using some thread seal tape around the threading of the drive side making it a tighter fit.

Any advice?

If the cartridge keeps turning on the DS when it's fully home it sounds like you have a stripped thread.
The "Raleigh" rings alarm bells here.... older Raleighs used a different thread pitch (26 tpi rather than the usual 24 tpi) but with the same 1-3/8" shell diameter. If a steel 24tpi has been forced in at some time then that will have boogererd the thread in the frame.
Velosolo sell a threadless BB for such cases, but I think you'd have to ream out the remains of the thread.

Thread seal tape is unlikely to last very long. Heavy duty threadlocker might work for a while as a temporary solution.

I pretty sure the threading is 24 tpi as the frame isn't that old. But yeah the thread could be stripped will have to take it apart on the w/e and find out. The Stronglight didn't keep turning when it was all the way in on the drive side so hopefully i'm ok.

If i went with a threadless BB i would need a 107 mm axle length.

Thanks for the advice

Looks like the drive side BB cup on my vanquish has worked loose , i have done a google and i have seen people use loctite . Is this a good idea ?
The BB is a power spline BB that screws in with a standard square taper tool and i recently reinstalled it after greasign the threads and tightening it up , tight !
It came with the bike although it feels ok i have no idea of the age .

Try some PTFE tape.
Had a problem with the BB coming lose on my Van Nich. PTFE tape sorted it.

EDIT
Took the whole BB out and maybe i had the non drive side to tight because when i loosened the BB drive side the LH crank was touching the frame .Reinstalled with the LH side not so tight and the drive side is flush .
So hopefully its ok now
I just have to sort out the front mech trim now

Can i pick your brains on another issue?
Upper jockey cage catches on the mech hanger in big front/small back but i can pull it away , do i need to reduce chain length a few pins ?.
Chain length looks ok but this is the only thing i can think of to pull it away as there does not seem to be a lot of tension on the mech .

Think you need to adjust the H limit screw to stop the jockey wheels from shifting too far out and hitting the hanger.
And yes may also need to reduce chain length. Check out Sheldon Brown how to.
Cheers , the H stop is asdjusted just right as any less and it does not get the smallest sprocket .
