I have read lots of good reviews about this bike but would like to hear from someone who has had personal experience of it. I am currently riding the Boarman Team Hibrid - which I also think is a great bike, but am considering braving up to the full spec, light weight, drop bar position before I get too old ! One comment I have read is that the Sram Rival "double tap" gears might not be every one's taste. Not used these before so how does the double tap thingy work ? Any info will be welcome.

Rival double tap is essentially a racing groupset, so they're good quality. double tap is just a name afaik.

it's double tap because the one level changes up and down. the shifters look similar the shimano but where shimano uses the full brake level to tighten the cable and a smaller level behind the brake to loosen, sram uses the small level behind the brake to do both - one click loosens, a double clicke tightens. I've a boardman with the force groupset and I think it's excellent.

I have both the Comp Hybrid and the Team Carbon road bike - the move to the Carbon was worth every penny.

As already mentioned there is a small lever behind each brake lever which operates the front (left lever) & rear (right lever) mechanisms - a quick tap changes down and a longer "sweep" movement changes up. Occasionally I find myself not moving the lever far enough to change up resulting in a down change by mistake or the front mechanism not going onto the big ring first time.

The only changes I have had to make were to flip the stem and fit an in line seat post to get a comfortable riding position and , as it's fairly flat in Suffolk, to change the inner ring from a 34 tooth to a 36 tooth. I would also recommend getting some better tyres (Continental GP4000S were my choice) as the standard fit Continental Ultra Sports (if I remember correctly) were a bit "slow".

I understand Halfords should be getting the 2011 model in soon (prices unknown), but you may still be able to get hold of the old version that they were doing for £999 last week.
