I recently rushed out and bought a new Boardman Road Race from a well known national motor factors and bicycle retailer. I started off on this forum with a Pashley Roadster Sovereign, a little heavier than the Boarder, and blessed with but 5 speeds. Having read lots and lots, and yet more about road bikes here, I decided something lighter, faster and sexier had to grace the shed. After many hours spent looking at bike porn I decided on the Boarder based on an affordable price of £670, an adequate equipment fit up, and a beautifully made and finished frame. I like the restrained colour and particularly like the fully dressed welds on the frame.

As a riding machine, I can't compare with other hot road bikes because this is the first I've owned. I have found it really quick uphill compared to Percy the Pashley though as you might expect. Hills that I had to take in the second on the Pashley I can ride up in comfort on the dog ring, and have only had to grab the small ring on hills that were a real bear on the town bike.
It's a harder ride, and the steering is much twitchier, so I've got to start thinking about turns rather than making turns. The riding position is also very different of course, but nevertheless I find it comfortable. It's quite nice having more choice of bar positions too. Gear changes are crisp and reliable, and the brakes are effective and progressive.
All in all, a nice machine to ride and own.

I love my Boardman Road Comp. An absolute bargain when I bought it in July: £531 after various Halfords and British Cycling discounts. Currently on the Halfords website for £949.99! :-O

Just waiting for the Spring when I can get out on it again (using my old Carrera Virtuoso over the Winter months)!

I've got a Road Race and, yes, it's very well finished, isn't it? However, the paint does seem to chip quite easily. I've never found the steering twitchy though, but that's probably because of the difference from my default bike at the time. As I've been using a tourer (heavier but more leisurely, with wider tyres and lower air pressures) more this year I did find myself checking I didn't have a puncture because it felt like I was riding on the rear rim.

I see yours as mudguards on which i thought might be a tight fit.

My first racer (after getting back into it) was a Boardman Race. Top machine and a great bargain too. The only thing I changed soon after I bought it was the brake pads (bit like cheese) and the tyres (prone to punctures). Other than that I had many miles of enjoyment out of it. Sold it on about 18 months ago, but I wish I'd kept it as a winter/turbo steed.

I picked up the race 8 week's ago,end of line sale, bought it for £ 535, great bargain, changed the pedals, will have to change the pads soon, this is my first road bike, feels really quick on the flat and comfortable on longer rides, very happy with it,

I had had a year From my road race, was going to sell as upgrading, but can't bring myself to do it. Changed brake pads to Swiss stop greens, and made a massive difference to stopping. Keeping her as winter bike  gear service from lbs cured months of problems with halfords set up, they had the cables all wrong.
