Hi
It seems that the new site simply does not properly support blogging. No wonder there only appear to be 3 entries. You can't name a blog, just post to what looks like a single multiuser blog under your login name. No tagging or other extended blog features. You can't even set the date of entry. I wanted to port my blog on the previous site, but how can I do that if I can't set the post dates to the original publish date?
So, it looks like 'blogging' as we previously knew it has been killed on this site and I'll have to take my blog elsewhere, which is a shame.
What I'd have expected is for the admin to port the blogs at a database level but I assume the new software is entirely incompatible with the old?
Please Shaun, if I'm missing some huge obvious thing, let me know soon...

You've possibly missed the announcement I made explaining that the current blog option is a basic add-on (which I've put in place until an official XF or more comprehensive add-on becomes available).

Also the bit where I explained I would be porting the blog content from the old system into this one - as time allowed - and it would likely be the new year before I could really get into the task.

And you can see the date of entry on the blog listing page.

I appreciate it's not the same as the old software but in time the current add-on will mature or other options will be available and when that happens I'll take advantage of it and add it to CC; but please be considerate of the fact that I run CC in my spare time and major changes take a while to put into effect.

Cheers,
Shaun

'as time allowed' - but if you have no more rights to modify than us, you won't be able to reconstruct blogs as they were.
'see the date of entry' - yes, but not back-date it to its true date of entry which is what I need.

Essentially this forum software does not have a blogging solution anywhere NEAR as sophisticated as the old one. By migrating before worrying about blogs you've possibly alienated a bunch of ppl who were keen to run/continue blogs on the old site as there's little point in a blog that isn't really visible, and therefore read. Personally I'd have thought it through a bit more before migrating, so there's a clear and simple path for us, and at least found a way to get the old posts into the new database within a month of launch.

BTW image galleries did not migrate either so all the image attachments on old posts are gone, and I guess we're supposed to cut and paste these too?

I'll fix the dates when I import them, the example ones are just that, examples.

If some of the gallery images are missing from posts, just report them or PM and I'll add them back in too.

Cheers,
Shaun

That comes across a bit harsh Mike. I always saw the blogs on as an extra arm to the forum rather than a means in themselves.

I must admit, I never understood why people who didn't post much on the forum, blogged. The most popular blogs, were, by no co-incidence, those belonging to regular forum posters. This is as you would expect really.

Shaun said, before we moved, that some of the things he thought essential on the old forum, had proved a distraction. He's also made a commitment to port the old stuff over. I think he made the direction of the forum clear before we moved.

Maybe the thing to do is use a proper platform and link it in your signature, especially if it's so important?

There is a possible Wordpress/XF bridge that might offer a more comprehensive solution, but it'll need a bit of experimenting to see how practical it is and how well it integrates. It would make the blog data more portable, but again it will take me some time to work out how feasible it is.

It'll all pan out, but yes, CC is forums first and foremost.

Cheers,
Shaun

Well, I don't really agree that its harsh, but it may be that only few of us care. Blogging within CC gives you the ability to maintain a narrative to an audience that may understand. I could have put these on my other blog(s) but my interests are so wide that the different audences don't really overlap. This was very convenient and I just feel a bit sidelined. I can't 'continue the narrative' at the moment and that is very frustrating. The Wordpress bridge would be *ideal* (!) even if it means me getting the posts out without copynpaste. Also ideally I'd like it to stay part of the community.
