Black or white !

Well as Winter is quicky approaching I thought it might be a good idea, to get me through, to build up a nice carbon fibre bike. Where I can I am going to use many of the components I already have in the garage but I have had to buy a frame, which is white and blue. So the question I have is given the frame colour do I use black or white ( silver ) brake calipers.

What do you think would look better. Oh and are dual pivot brakes the best brakes to fit. What are dual pivot brakes anyway.

Silver. What 'Dual Pivot Brakes' are need not concern you. That sort of knowledge is best left to the mechanix in your LBS.

Black (or red anodised) calipers, silver will look awful
Dual pivot brakes have one more pivot than single pivot brakes.
They are usually considered more effective but slightly heavier.
Personally I prefer cantis

doesn't matter which colour you buy as the one you did not buy would have been the one you should have bought!

I tend to match my caliper colour with the colour of the other componets such as chainset, rear mech, brake levers etc.

In recent years I've always gone for all black, perhaps because everything was all silver 20 years ago!

Black frames can look very stylish with all silver compoennets

Also thanks tundragumski , 02GF74 and you are so right when you say whatever I buy that is exactly how I felt having just had a Roberts Tourer built for me. I then thought I should have spent the money on a nice CF bike.Hence my Winter project.Still I suppose over the Winter I will get use to sleeping in the garage and by Spring the wife might start talking to me again and I can then return to living inside the house. The price us cyclists pay for our hobby hey.

My Madone is blue and white, and I've fitted Bontrager speed limiters in silver and they look the part, but at the end of the day so would black, its what you get used too eventually. At first I hated the blue and white frame, as it looked "cold" and also reminded me of when I was a kid, and how much I hated making anything with blue and white bricks in Lego, it just never looked right, but now, I love the colours of my frame. You just get used to it, but I never did with my Lego......

yes having only collected the frame today I am now wondering whether I should have pushed the envelope and gone for a Ribble black and red frame but I think once it is built up I will quite like the white and blue because to me its a Summer colour.

With regard to lego my 8 year old Grandson just loves it so I will ask him what he thinks about Blue and White bricks. Surely Lego should be red and yellow.

I'm beginning to get a feel for your personality. First the Roberts, then the CF, then the Ribble.......

My advice is to stop buying and start riding - some people (through no fault of their own) are never quite happy with what they have - some sort of OCD.

tundragumski OCD fair point I had never considered that you might have something there. In my defence though I do get out on the bike 3 - 4 times a week in all weathers, although I do need to increase my mileage. Oh yes and for a few years I did get down to the Alps and struggled up some of the climbs.OCD yes it might be nice to have an answer for my obssession of buying things.

Currently reading The Saint, the Surfer and the CEO by Robin Sharmer to see if I can get a cure.
