Bitten by the biking bug

Ok, so I picked up my new mountain bike after not riding for nearly 10 years. Decided to put some slicks on and now really wished I had got a road bike! I only paid £180 for the bike from Halfords but I'm bitten big style by the road cycling aspect. The slicks made such a difference but I feel I can get more out of myself. Earlier today I was pushing the bike and couldn't get anymore speed from it and it dawned on me perhaps I made a mistake buying the mountain bike.
Is this a common mistake or did I just jump into a mountain bike too soon?

Are you riding on roads or mountains? (slightly rhetorical question)

I did the same 2 years ago, been pushing my MTB (with slicks), and like you I paid £180
Keep going on the MTB - it will improve your fitness, and the road bike will be such a breeze in comparison.

I'm currently doing 10-12 mile fitness rides on my MTB - that will translate into 20 milers on the road bike, you will be the same :-)

Regular
530kam - good point. It is mainly for fitness as I run my own business so wanted something to get out of the office and switch off. So far its doing the job. My target are 10 mile runs as I do feel that should be a decent enough workout.

Vickster - thanks for the recommendation!

IYo can spend an hour on each bike, the heavy mountain bike and the light road bike, and put in equal effort on each - the difference would be that for the same effort you would go faster and further on the roadie!

However, if it is purely for fitness then either bike will provide you with a workout. However, I predict you'll have a road bike in your stable by this time next year!
