We wanted to see how good they were, so got a used one for £30. It's surprisingly good; doesn't smell, gives out a good heat and no wires/pipes required.

Only downside is the fuel is about £3/Litre! But for occasional use and aesthetics we do like it, so are buying a wall mounted one next.

Anyone else have one?

You can get the fuel on Amazon £35 for twelve.

Am I missing something - that sounds like a princely £1 off a spend of £35?

We bought 2 Litres at BandQ for nearly £7. Slightly cheaper online, works out about £2.92/L. Still very costly but it's only for the odd evening in front the telly. I can't understand at the moment why none of the big stores sell them, they only seem to be sold by dedicated BioEthanol Fire outlets, and Amazon. Maybe they are still a bit niche

B and Q seem to be selling them, are they safe indoors?
I have a gas fire that heats up the chimney!

We didn't see any in our big store, and none online but I guess some stores might sell them. Yes they are safe to burn without a chimney or flue, that's the attraction I think. They give off a very faint smell of heat (if that makes sense) and you can also get different scents which are more expensive, but it's smokeless and non-toxic. They do give out a good bit of heat depending on what size you get (they range from 800w to 4kw) but it all seems to come out the front and not out the top. Handy for efficiency and means you can put them underneath a TV providing you have sufficient distance and/or a heat proof shelf or a mantle piece.

They are certainly not as cheap to run as a gas fire though.

We have a portable one. I’m so-so on it. Odours annoy me, but we might investigate better fuels.

I probably wouldn’t buy one again or recommend it. That said I quite like it.
