Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I am in need of a bike to go from St.Malo to Barcelona...and I don't have one. How safe is it to buy from ebay?? If anyone has time maybe check out some of these links?? I don't really know who I can ask for advice on all of this so I'm getting a bit panicky!! Especially as I'm a student with minimal funds! :s

Oh and also what are the big brand names in the world of cycling?!

Thanks xx

What's your max budget and are you planning on doing all roads? Welcome to CC BTW

What a grand idea, quite a tour you've got planned there. It is a very long way on a bike that may or may not fit you, or one you don't know is comfortable.

For that reason, I'd be looking in a local bike shop and trying things out before parting with any cash. You'll get a better bike for the trip if you also consider second hand machines.

Big trips CAN be done on cheap bikes and you don't need to spend a fortune - I'm touring northern France next week on an old Raleigh hybrid that I rescued from a hedge. I've spent some time making sure it fits me properly and I can ride for long distances without bits of me dropping off though.

The Trek is the best of that lot, but it'll need racks and mudguards for touring. You have to get it from a bike shop as Trek don't allow online sales.

That's a good thing, as at least you'll be able to try it first.
