Until now I've been bungee cording bikes to the sides of a panel van (inside, obvs!) wrapped in an old duvet but am wondering if I could potentially mount something to the floor - similar to bike bars on a roof - to hold the bikes up, away from the edges and protected? Any ideas?

I don't really want to stick some thules to the floor as this then limits the vans uses (changing room, dogs, shopping, moving washing machines for everyone I've ever spoken to. . .) but maybe it's possible to fix a little something at either end or something that folds away? Ideas gratefully received, even better if you've solved this problem already and can show me a pic!

Loch side.
Cut a piece of flatish timber to the width of your van's inside. Attach to this one or more of those dropout style fork clamps and pretend your bike is on a roofrack, but inside. When no longer required, remove the plank and store it elsewhere.

Not a van, but the same principle. Fork mount attached to redundant roof bar. Google 'Floor/Pickup fit bike racks' for lots of suggestions, and ingenious home made racks

I've since added a block of wood for the front wheel but a turbo riser block would do .

Recently i've transported the tt bike like this and also a road bike in a turbo trainer for a warm up . So a cheap turbo trainer may be a good solution .

I'd love to do that, weekend away just me and the bike, don't think the wife would be happy.

How big a van? How many bikes?

It's a SWB Vivaro, usually 2, occasionally 3 bikes?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, ideally I'd like to keep the wheels on, I'm a lazy bugger and getting the van was meant to mean the bikes could just go in, whole, without any messing about!
