Just moved house. Previously I had used a celing hoist, both to get the bike out of the way of the car, but also to work on the bike. In particular it got used weekly for the Monday morning chain clean and re-grease/oil.

However the garage in the new house has a single-pitched roof, and doesn't lend itself to fitting the hoist. My solution to this is to use either folding brackets (like this) or a wall-mounted monitor arm bracket. Would need to be rated at 20-30kg minimum, but looking for 100kg, I guess. However I also need a seat-post clamp to hold the bike as I work on it. I have a friend that could weld something up, if it takes two separate components from different suppliers.

Anyone got any experience or tips on attempting this?

Almost exactly what I want. Except it doesn't swing/pivot out of the way when not required, although I guess it is fairly easy to remove and store.

I reckon it would be fairly simple to put it on a vertical hinge with some kind of clip to keep it in place.

If you look at the RH pic it appears that the clamp mechanism just slides into the wall plate thus can be removed easily - that would solve the protruding issue? One thing - good idea BUT it needs long screws, or ideally Rawlbolts, to fix it to the wall as the weight/leverage effect would be quite strong.

Bought the item recommended above by benb. Many thanks!
Now fitted, and I will do a product review when I have used it a few times.
However, it came packaged like a Russian doll:
standalone

I would just like to point out that I didn't mean to recommend this specific product, but re-reading my post I can see that it came across like that. That product was simply the first one I noticed when searching for wall-mountable workshop stand, so was meant to be an example of the kind of thing you could get.

I really hope it's OK, as if it's crap I'll feel guilty.
