Just getting back into cycling so I thought I would try a bit of a night time bike ride.

Only a few miles to begin with but I really enjoyed it.

No wind, the temperature was still ok, and it was nice and quiet with hardly any traffic on the roads.

Not brilliant for sightseeing obviously (!) but very enjoyable all the same.

Are there many other 'night owls' out there, or am I just an odd ball ?

Me! I'm out nearly every Friday night*, great way to disconnect the week from the weekend.

* I go out other nights as well, just that Friday is a bit of a ritual.

i have been getting some miles in in readiness for commuting as i have just started riding again......most of my miles have been in the dark....roads are quieter....although went out later tonight (as i couldn't commute today) would have to go out much later to be in the dark! I believe there are people who ride very late/early hours on here.

I enjoy going out on a night and have done for the past couple of months, toughest bit for me is planning a route where the roads are well lit up if not you come unstuck and its pot hole city out there.

most of my rides are at night usually about 7 or 8 pm when the traffic is less.

had a ride tonight first one this month and it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be (fitness wise)

I ride in the countryside! Chav and drunken yobbo free!
Almost true, on our Friday Night Rides to the Smoke from Oxford to London, the worst yobbyness is not Oxford, nor High Wycombe but the small village of Wheatley followed closely by the somewhat larger town of Thame. But Wheatley at turning-out time is lairy!

I cut my teeth night riding in London back in the 80s. For me the urban environment is easily the best. The county is good at night, the peace and tranquility, the stars, the badgers .... cyclist sweeping along silently through the night, it's very relaxing to have the roads to yourselves and plenty warning of approaching motors. But the cityscape changes during the night far more dramatically, you see familiar buildings in a new light (literally), the noise fades and you're left with a fabulous playground perfectly suited to the bicycle.

Do most of my riding at nightime

Much less traffic ,but as talc1976 says make sure you know the roads,I know from experience about falling down pot holes at night time

I'd be out there now but I'm jiggered, just finished digging up the remains of the lawn to reseed it after my three dogs have wrecked it over the winter
