New poster, great forum!

So this week, I want to attempt to fully refurb my old Peugeot racer. Strip it, clean it, re spray it and maybe re-gear it.

Couple of questions before I start:

How difficult will the strip and rebuild be for a first timer?
Can a new gear set simply be bolted on to an old bike?
Does anyone know of any good how to guides / videos for the strip and rebuild process?

Thanks guys!

Youtube and the Haynes bike book, that and some tools / time and you'll have no problem, just take it steady and learn on the job as it were.

Google 'Jerome K Jerome Three Men on the Bummel bicycle repair' if you don't know the answer to your question.

Can a new gear set simply be bolted on to an old bike? Basically no, chances are you'd have to re-space, (see cold setting) your frame. It can be done though.
Does anyone know of any good how to guides / videos for the strip and rebuild process? YouTube.

It depends on how old your Peugeot is.

If it is pre-80's there are a whole host of compatibility issues that can make parts replacement difficult, if that is necessary. See e.g. this.

For refurbing old bikes there is no better guide than the free and extensive Sheldon, where pages such as this and this will also help answer some of your immediate questions.
