So, now I have ordered a bike (Voodoo Bizango 29er) I now need to sort out the rest of the bits to go with it. I have had a good read and a think and have come up with the list below.

As a newbie I am not 100% sure if I need all of these bits, if I have missed anything and which products to go for. So any pointers would be appreciated. I don't want to spend mega bucks but at the same time I want decent quality stuff.

Pump (with frame mount)
Lock
Spare Inner tubes
Multi tool with chain tool
Puncture repair kit with tyre levers
Chain lube
Helmet
Mudguards
Gloves
KMC power link
Chain stay protector

Oh and I also need a bracket to store the bike flat against a wall!

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have it covered.
I ride an MTB and carry a small set of lights in my backpack, just incase I get caught out when riding home.
Personally I don't carry a pump on my bike frame...I have a compact one which fits in my backpack.
I also carry a small first aid kit.

Thanks. I have a bag I can use for now.

At least I know my list is good, but could do with some pointers on specific products as there is so much out there! Any recommendations?

If you're cycling distances and carrying, panniers are a good idea. Leaves your back free. - Advice I'm yet to heed.

Practise removing and refitting your tyres with the tools you intend to carry. You may encounter fitting issues that will leave you fuming by the road side.

You don't want to have to have a backpack every time you get on the bike. I'd suggest adding a small underseat bag big enough for essential tools, a spare tube, keys, small amount of cash and a card - maybe even a phone.

As you are a halfords shopper, try this link

Get a pump that has a bottle cage mount, so you can keep it on your frame.

Backpack as soon as you need to carry anything else.

One of my best buys was THIS .. it will hold everything you'll ever need to carry for any cycling trip, and it's not too large as to be bulky, comes off easy (quick click lock) from the seat post and if you buy a spare clip lock system you can add it to any bike in your stable

Thanks again. Done a lot more reading.

I have a rucksack that I will use for now and then upgrade that later, maybe to a camelback or one of the other suggested bag ideas. So I won't bother with a bottle and cage yet, until I decide. I also have a very cheap set of lights and will upgrade those later if needed.

So my research has pointed me to the following.....would appreciate any comments or ideas on my selections....

Pump. Still no idea, looking for something small with a guage. Don't want to buy two at this stage.

Lock. Was thinking of the Onguard Brute LS as the main d lock and a second Onguard DT pit bull which comes with a cable as well.

Chain lube
Will a can of GT85 do?

Helmet
Not sure yet. Need to try some on.

Mudguards
Really not sure what's best for a 29er. Need them though because there will be the short commute.

Gloves
661 Raji.

KMC power link

Chain stay protector
Lizard Skin not sure which size. Some helicopter tape to protect other areas, but not sure where to get that from.

Storage Bracket
I think I will go with the Raleigh one as that can be had for under a tenner.

I went for Jumbo, and it's gone onto two bikes since buying it (original bike and replacement).
Jumbo is ideal too, as no matter the size of the chainstay, I know it'll wrap around easily enough
