Hi all,

Having read a magazine article on it recently, I'm quite interested in entering the "Bike Oxford" sportive event next September. Looks like a well run event, with choices of 20, 50 and 80 mile routes, and fairly reasonable entry fees at £33.

Have any of you guys ridden this event and are able to give any reviews of it please? Would appreciate any comments you care to make about Bike Oxford. Thanks.

That's early bird! No experience of Bike Oxford, but live in the area and cycled some of those roads. If it's the same 80km as I found on Strava - the beginning and end, will just be Oxford city, good view of Otmoor from the Wheatley Road, nr Noke/ Islip - btw Edward the Confessor was born in Islip around 1005AD. I like the roads West of Woodstock, but the A44 into Woodstock and the A-road through Bladon can be busy; fortunately short stretches AFAICS. Have had a look at 130km BOx now - nice up to Hook Norton and around (Pear Tree Inn, nr HN brewery was good when I was there on a ride in June). Sportive fee level was one factor in my preferring DIY, or audax rides (typically ~£5) - have to be 'self sufficent' though.

Although some focus of getting round in a quick time (<30km/h avs), one of the benefits of an Audax is that one can enjoy a good 'control' cafe/pub stop without feeling like you're destroying a 'Gold/Silver/Bronze' time... :hungry:
Although having done a few 200km Audax rides, I've never made the January PS200 - would like to 'DIY' in warmer weather/more daylight... 2 years ago (I think it was) some of the lanes on PS ride were axle deep in flood water...
