Hello everyone,

I have found myself more and more less shy to repair my bikes (hybrid for commuting and road bike for week-end) by myself.. I have a nice book that give me most of what I need to know with pretty picture and use the youtube videos for specific tasks.

This is great to learn by myself but not very ideal and would love to know if you guys can recommend some bike maintenance school that teach you how to build/fix a bike around London...

I am not going to be in London for very long so I can't really join a cycling club which I would probably do when moving to the new city were my company is going to relocate me (funny part I don't know yet where is it and that's for next month)...

Thanks for reading.

Sam

Hello Sam and welcome to the forum.

There is plenty of choice, it just depends on your goal and proficiency of mechanicing.

Have a look at these:

Evans do their "Fixit!" classes in all of their stores at least 1 night a week. They're free (you pay a 10 quid deposit but you get it back in form of a voucher for the shop) and apparently they're bloody good. Have a look at those, maybe?

Great idea. I think I'll definitely do this. Watching my lovely new bike getting completely socked right now makes me want to know how to take care of it

How do you book on to the Evans Fixit courses? I understand you have to pay £10, is this covered by paypal or do you pay it when you get there?

Regards, Brad

I've done the Evans workshop. I paid £10 by credit card when I phoned to reserve a place, and after the workshop I was offered a refund/credit (I bought a few things after the workshop, good chance to shop in comfort!) or a 'goody bag' which was about £20 worth of stuff like inner tubes, puncture kit, tyre levers, etc.

The workshop was perfect for me, shows you basic routine maintenance, adjusting brakes, gears, changing tubes/tyres etc., definately worth doing if you're not already familiar with those kind of jobs.

I'd like to do a more in depth course now, something to really understand bike design and setup, so that I could build up my own bike if I wanted to.
