Can anyone reccomend a decent one for me?

I'm buying a workstand next pay packet and would like to have a better grasp of the basics.

Thanks

Park Tools manual has always worked for me, I borrow a mates though :-)

That was just the first link google found, buy it from wherever...

Early editions of Richard's Bicycle Book (Richard Ballantine) were excellent for 70s bikes. I haven't read any of the recent editions, though, so I don't know how well it has been updated for newer technology, or even if the books still include mechanical stuff. These days, Sheldon Brown and YouTube between them seem to have it covered.

Park Tools website. Very good and free, if you don't need a physical book right next to you.

I have an old laptop that I use out the garage for this, but tend to use my iPhone these days for stuff not done in a while.

Even with my borrowed Park Tools book I'm more likely to use YouTube, if you are using common components you can often get video of someone doing exactly the job you are trying to do and between pause and replay it's proved the best option for me. Although I do work on the bike in the comfort of the house most of the time so having a tablet nearby and strong wifi is never an issue.

I'll add a +1 for Zinn's book on road bike maintenance :notworthy:

I wrote my own bike maintenance book.

Here is the full book for those interested:

Chapter 1.

Just stop it, stop right now, don't even think about doing that. Take the bike to the bike shop, you know it will be cheaper in the end.

If you are not like me and are not completely useless then go buy Zinns and enjoy the sense of achievement you get from fixing and maintaining your bike yourself.

I find almost as much enjoyment in tinkering on the bike as I do riding it. If it was a choice of the two, then the answer is obvious, but it's not mutually exclusive.
