the wife has shown an interest it starting to cycle l, mainly for weight loss but hey it's a start

I'm looking for recommendations for a cheapish road bike that she can test the waters on so to speak.

I've seen the triban 520 from decathlon which is on the list but don't want to spend that much as a trial at this stage.. (But will if need be)

Willing to also look at 2nd hand

Any suggestions

Budget is around £300 but would stretch to £450 for the triban 520 if needed

Problem is she doesn't know what she'd like, hence buying a cheap bike now and if the bug bites she will have a better idea of what she wants then and can upgrade accordnigly

Fair enough, but ensure she's fully engaged with decision making.

Just to update

We went around a few shops today

Decathlon / halfords

Decathlon had the triban 520 at £450 which was ok but then we decided to try halfords. Went to 3 stores but none of them stocked the Trott bikes

However, halfords have opened up a new store called cycle republic in Birmingham (it just a bike shop, sells boardmans, Carreras etc) but they had a Trott RD1 in the right size

Managed to get 20% off the price on the halfords website / bike sticker so it was priced at £450 but only paid £360

First ride out in the morning

I'm amazed she's still with you! If I referred to Lady Byegad as 'the wife' I'd be picking my teeth up from the door step, from the outside!
