During my research into my own bike my wife likes the idea of pinching some of my budget and start cycling. She seems more drawn toward a Hybrid than a true road bike but I feel this would limit us cycling together.

She also quite likes giving a triathlon a go in a year or so. I don't want to spend a fortune as she will admit herself she doesn't always stick to things.

Does any one have any recommendations of bikes/ types probably looking at a max of £300.

My back ground.
I am a newbie myself and currently recovering from a quite invasive shoulder surgery. I made the decision before surgery that I want to get into cycling for fitness more seriously with the aim to start triathlon as that would require shoulder mobility.

Try to find something like a used specialized vita, flat bar roadbike, no issue with using for triathlons as a beginner I'm sure (a friend of mine did one on an Apollo MTB).

If she will consider drops, look at decathlon but don't force her into choosing a bike because of what you want to do

Ha ha Im not daft enough to not let her chose, at least the colour.

Im almost the opposite of trying to force her, she said it might motivate her. My worry is the "might" which also means "might not" having folded out on a bike, so I would like a bike she could use to cycle with the kids if she gives up.

Thus go second hand, no hit on price, more likely to get back close to what you paid if she doesn't take to it, or does and wants to upgrade

Whereabouts is highbridge? How tall is she?

We like on Clyce road just across the bridge as you come from Bridgwater. She is 5ft 8 I measured her inside leg swell but can't find the piece of paper.

Is that somewhere in the SW?

I think at 5'8 a large women's frame, or medium men's would be likely, (19" approx, or 53/54cm depending on how they measure)

Do a search on eBay for women's flat bar roadbikes, like the Vita, the Trek 7.x wsd series, Boardman also make some decent options
