My neck is hurting on long rides and shortish let's say 2hrs.so I had a look at a bike fit the local shop wants 150 pounds that's a lot of money in my opinion. Will a bog standard bike fit to check your height stem length be ok my arms are a bit stretched out so that could be the issue.

I was having shoulder, neck and hand issues, changed my stem from a 100mm down to an 80mm. Although I still have some issues, it's a lot better than it was with the 100mm and at very little cost.

Yeah that's what I did today got a 80mm to see if that makes a difference I was using a 100mm as well. I've looked on YouTube there's a bike fitter who says there's a few reasons handle bars to wide stem length saddle tilt. I'm not sure what to do pay for a standard fit or dig deep and pay for the £150 one.

You might also want to consider a stem-riser, you don't say what bike you are currently running, but adding a bit of stack height might help reduce neck pain.

I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a bike fit in the expectation that it'll sort your problems. Some bike fits can be good, others less so - so it's a bit of a gamble. Bike fits are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.

Bars to high and it plays havoc with my back problems, personally I feel the £150 I invested many years ago was money well spent. That was after 40 years of cycling and racing, I invested in it more out of interest than anything. Adrian Timmis, made my bike feel like a big comfy armchairs, and I thought it was quite good before.

If it's a two hour ride that's not much, so I'd start with a shorter stem. Then bars raised / lowered. Or your saddle moved slightly.

If your neck hurts are you tilting your head up? If so after a while it'll hurt. Just why you're needing to do that is the cause and it can be a bit of trial and error.

Yeah I'm tilting my head up a little plus it seems like I'm shrugging my shoulders aswell.like I've said I've changed my stem for a shorter one plus I've moved my handlebars up a little so the hoods are a bit higher I'll see how it goes on the next few rides. Cheers guys for the reply.

Hi guys I had a bike fit after all I paid the £150 for an 2hr set up. I took my bike to cyclepodea its a good bike shop in wales. He asked if I wanted to basic bike fit that was £45 or the full hog, so as a fathers day present I said I'll have the full set up check.

He asked what was the problem I said it was .y neck , and that I didn't want a racing set up just a comfortable one for all day rides. So he put my bike on this roller set up where he could clamp it down and have a look at me riding. I'll make this short he moved my seat up brought my seat to the middle of the rail and put a 110mm stem with a massive angle so now it looks right high but when he showed me because he took a photo I was lower that when I first came in.
I changed yhe stem the other day to a 80mm thinking it would be better for my neck being closer to the handlebars as I thought I didn't have enough bend in my arms. Anyway it feels much better now but it looks a bit strange now more of a touring bike I'll take a photo I'm not sure about the handle bars.
