Hi All

Do I just wash bike down with hose pipe / baby wipes and then wd40 and re-oil my chain?

What products do you guys use?

Loads on the market and not sure what I need and don't need.

Soapy water, brushes to get into nooks and crannies. If you're anal you can use pipecleaners, string etc. to get into the hard to reach places. Then hose down.

GT85 or similar lubricant to do your chain.

I'd avoid using any oil in an aerosol to lube chains as it tends to go everywhere but whatever you use little and often is the golden rule

Everyone does it differently.
For me it's a bucket of water thrown over the bike, then a spray of Muc Off.
Leave 5 mins then wash down with clean water and a soft brush.
Dry bike off then once chain is completely dry, a little Muc Off dry lube.
Sorted.

If you know what's good for you ...
The way I do this these days is: remove the chain and put it in a plastic tub you can close tightly. I fill this with water and plenty of washing up liquid and shake like crazy for a couple of minutes. It's amazing what comes off! Then I refill the tub with clean, soapless water and shake again to ensure there is absolutely no washing-up liquid left on the chain. Finally I wipe clean each link with a clean, lintless cloth while the chain is still wet and put back on the bike. Leave to completely dry, apply one drop of oil on each link and wipe the chain with a clean cloth. Don't use spray or put on too much - oil and dust make a very effective grinding compound. BTW - it's also a good idea to clean the cassette, jocky wheels and chainring

The only time I put water near the bike is if I've been on particularly mucky roads then it gets a hose-down, followed by the wet ride treatment. Generally, if it's been wet then the bike gets a quick rub-down and spray with GT85 when I get home. The day after a ride, if it needs it, the bike gets a good wipe down with a clean cloth and furniture polish, the pivot points get a touch of light oil and the chain gets oiled and wiped. Every few weeks there will be a strip down to get a more thorough clean for the cogs, chainrings, jockey wheels etc and the chain will get a form of 'mickling'.
