Have a look at the rear brake and do the same.

The curved silver metal piece that the cable feeds through has a little knobble on the end that the cable feeds out from, this should locate into the round opening of the non hinged end of the brake arm to the right in your photos. But in the second photo, the silver knobble bit looks bent or sheared off which may well be why it has given way. You'll need a new one, available from any bike shop / Halfords type superstore. The frayed cable should be replaced at the same time as it'll make it easier to feed through & once they start to fray they are pretty well done for anyway.

The brake is designed like that to allow it to be unhooked so that the wheel can be removed/replaced with the tyre inflated, the curved 'noodle' just hooks back in to the keyhole shaped slot in the hinged part.

WT actual F is that?

You need a new noodle. As in the second pic, the nodule that you have almost at the fixing screw should sit in the U of the holder, with the flange (about 1cm infront of the U) should hold it in the U holder.

the metal sleeve that it looks like you have been holding in the U holder should be no where near the holder, and the bit between should be curved through 90 degrees.

in the below, you have the bit above the word Noodle, inserted into the front of the noodle holder, and the end of the tube at the anchor bolt - move everything back about 5cm.

but you need a new noodle! If you are not comfortabel doing this, support you LBS for £5.
