To any London commuters out there, I will need to get Blackhealth station on Sunday after arriving from Waterloo. Seems a straight forward affair if you are on foot, take the linking walkway path between the main station and the east station- Does anybody know if you are able/allowed to cross with a full size bike? Or other suitable alternatives - maybe riding across the river and take the train from Charring Cross instead?

Thanks

Yes you can, just walk the bike. The walkway is wide enough.

On the Waterloo mainline side you will need to get the bike up the escalators or use the lift, the Waterloo east side is easier as it is ramps down to the platforms so you can just wheel the bike down.

Great, got all the info I need. Two options one is to take the lift from Waterloo main station side and wheel it across the bridge and platform. Alternative is to climb the stair from Sandel Street.

Check if sandel street entrance open on Sunday, think it may be peak hours only

Other option, cycle Waterloo to Blackheath

There is a special third option.

Ill whisper it as its only available to proper Londoners.

Take the exit from the station concourse just before the costa coffee joint, through the archway onto the slip ramp, outside.

Then head down the ramp to the archway that kind of doublebacks on your right ( the one Jason Bourne took in one of the BOURNE films).

Once through the arch, turn right under the bridge.

Get on your bike...and ride to Blackheath.

Sorry, couldn't resist that.

To close this off for future reference - I was doing 2 100k rides so wanted to save my legs as much as possible in the end I tried the using the train from waterloo east and cycling directly to blackheath. Using the walkway from the main station - you'll need to climb to the first level by escalators/stairs.. then a lift to get to Waterloo East ticket gates before the walkway to the platforms. Sandel Street entrance is open on the weekends, but you'll need to climb 78 steps - didn't fancy that with a laden bike. Cycling the 5 miles to blackheath was enjoyable in the fantastic weather but def paid for it in the last leg of the 100k.

I use the Sandel Street entrance a lot as a pedestrian on my way out of Waterloo East - and walking up it is something I avoid like the plague! It's not just the number of steps but the number of small flights of steps turning round on themselves spiralling upwards... upwards... how long oh lord how long.....

Have a great ride
