Edit: Just been reading about velomobiles. Really interesting concept. Would love to have one myself except I would look like a wally, the price and the uphill struggle I imagine you would get. Are their gear ratios comparable to mountain bikes?

For those I've met, the low end gearing is about 1:1. The high end is limited by how much chain you can soak up (I've seen 70/11, but not on a regular triple) and what additions you make to the powertrain (schlumpf, dualdrive, rohloff, etc). I err on the side of having a gear low enough to get through Cornwall. I could do with more in the top end, but generally when the gradients tip me to somewhere north of 35mph, I'm not really pedalling anyway :smile:

There are ways to cheat

My Gekko has a 34 on the front coupled to a standard 15 toothed Rohloff on the rear.

However I also have Shhlumpf High Speed Drive which converts the 34 to an 85 on the front, and all of this with no change in chain length or tennsion!
