Are there advantages to wearing bib shorts as opposed to regular cycling shorts?

Yep, I also wondered this before I bought my first pair - bib shorts are made for the job, they won't ride up in the legs, and they won't slip down at the top of the back. They feel comfortable, knowing they're not going to move and keep you covered up.

Go for it, if you do road riding you won't regret it. I now wear a pair in winter also under some long cycling tights/leggings. I have a pair from dhb which are good, and a pair of specialized which I got from an lbs sale a year ago, which are a better fit - less padding, a bit lighter weight.

For long rides yes they are an advantage as the padding stays in the right area. On short rides of an hour or so, I didn't really feel any difference

It's a bit more complicated than that...

All of which, in my experience, is also true of conventional shorts.
And, of course, I don't have this problem:
The major disadvantage is when you need to have a number 1 (or 2) - especially a roadside one.
...which in turn means that this is also not a problem when you're wearing ordinary shorts.

Big advantage of bibshorts is that you have no elasticated waistband pressing on your bladder.
The other advantage of conventional shorts is that bibshorts are built for a particular combination of height and waist size. Unless you've got one of he standard ratios (I don't) they'll never fit.

This is probably why I can't really tell any difference I would guess as most of my riding is commuting just short of an hour each way. I honestly cannot tell a difference with half decent padded shorts.

Having brought a pair of bib tights for last winter I came converted and now have bib shorts for the summer. My view is once you try you will never go back.

As far as I am concerned, bib shorts are the only shorts I would wear for cycling.

I don't drop logs by the roadside, so haven't found that a problem, as for taking a pee, is it really a problem for you? I have no problem!
