Mr BP has requested a pair of Bib longs for his upcoming birthday. I ordered a pair that had good reviews on Wiggle and they arrived today. I ordered a medium - he's about 5'10 and slim build. He has tried them on and thinks that they are a bit snug length-ways - they are tight over the shoulders.

I appreciate that they must fit snugly, but should they feel as though they are pulling you double? It seems a bit ridiculous to order a large for bloke who nobody could ever describe as big!

What do you think?

I am 5' 10" and as cycle clothing is often designed for midgets, I generally have to purchase extra-large.

I don't think any of my cycling clothes are less than XL and in 'civvy' clothes I am usually a large or even a medium.

They certainly shouldnt feel like they are pulling you double.

Cycle clothing sizes can be a bit of a mistery, mostly you have to go bigger than your 'normal' size sometimes two sizes bigger. But it can also depend on the brand, I have bib longs from at least three different makers ranging from size L to XXL.
Most websites will have a size guide, but this is just a guide.

Hello BearPear, what make are they?
Some are made for the racing position so they will be tight on the shoulders when stading.

Obviously it depends on the make but I tend to go a size up on bib longs; i.e waist wise I could do with a small but height wise I'm better with medium. I'm nearly an inch smaller than your man and whilst my bibs fit me fine I could easily see (so as to speak) medium being too short him.

They are DHB.

It's a pain to have to go through the return process, but he needs to be comfy for 3-4 hour rides.

It's a lesson learned, thanks for the advice guys.

They were the roubaix design, but were returned to Wiggle today and a large ordered.

I think he must be on the cusp of medium/large, but better to be comfy than cycle with a permanent wedgie!
