When I am out on my bike, I see all makes of bikes out but very few from Bianchi and sometimes wonder why. They are a good make and nice looking machines. It can't be because of the price as they don't cost more than any other brands so why are they not as popular as others then?

I don't agree that they don't cost more than your average brand, I think they do and you pay a lot for the history and tradition. Another factor for me is the Campagnolo equipment which a lot of people are not really familiar with, let alone equipped to work on.

Personally, I like Celeste.

They are a good make, and yes they're very nice looking machines!
But - And genuine question by the way... what makes you say they don't cost any more than other makes? Perhaps I'm wrong in my perception but I think they're hugely expensive compared to many other makes.

In the group I ride with, there are 3 Boardmans, a couple of Giants, a Specialized, a Vitus, one BMC that was an ex demo and a huge bargain, and then that one guy with a Bianchi. To give you some idea, this guy worked in the City, retired at 50, and buys vintage sports cars for fun. I don't think any of us could afford his bike!

Oh I don't know I think there are a few city retired workers on here who collect vintage sports cars .
Bianchi is not such an elitist brand.

Your partner is painted a vile weird green colour? Makes sense as you're painted blue yourself.

I did like to ride my Bianchi but it was covered in weird writing and acronyms so I didn't actually like the design of it. It was a basic kind of alu frame carbon fork jobby and I bet you could get the equivalent made by many manufacturers. I do like a Campagnolo gearset though.

The Bianchi 928 with the bendy downtube is one of the ugliest machines I've ever seen. That's also from the same era as my old VN7 with the writing all over it.

Much of it is down to dealer networks. Anyway, most Bianchi's come with Shimano. Nooooo, mixing Italian bikes with Japanese stuff, and don't even mention SRAM.

Oh I'm not saying they're elitist, I'm just questioning whether it's accurate to state that they cost the same as other makes. The cheapest I can find start around 800-900 pounds with Sora and Claris groupsets, for that equipment level I think that's quite expensive. And I get why they are, they're nice bikes with history and prestige, but they are quite dear.

There is one at Evans for £950. Looks very nice too.

I think it's worth remembering that nobody really makes bikes. They make frames and then bolt other people's stuff on. And since they're not making the frames back in a little workshop at Via Nirone 7 any more, but in a factory in wherever, the history and prestige is all a bit meh.

And as for Italian design, just look at this thing, it's hideous.
