Hi all.

Hope your keeping dry.

I have a specialized allez and commute in London. Needless to say, the rims have taken a battering. Looking for replacements. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

I have them - very good wheels for the price. I think I actually paid about £70 from bike-discount. Did about 7k miles on my first set before the rim wore through.

I have a pair of R501s too - good value. Got mine from Rose - at the moment £63.73 + carr - total just over £70

how do 501`s compare to mavic cxp 22`s ?
I am considering an upgrade to my boardman and £100 will be my max budget as well.
I have some of the Shimano 501's they perform fine but mine started playing up after about 1500 summer miles, turned out the bearings had gone rusty. (The bike is either kept in the house office or garage.) They were ok again after a complete clean and regrease but my Mavic Aksiums which have Cartridge bearings had done 5 times that mileage with no issues. I suppose what I am saying is check that there is sufficient grease in the hubs and don't rely on the manufacturer having done this at assembly if you do go for them.

Agree re Aksiums - but we are talking about up to £100. I chose the 501s on price and weight. The RS10s are tempting, but are only a few grams lighter, and I was concerned re the low spoke count - 16/20 for winter wheels.

Yup i was asking how the 501s compared to cxp 22`s not askiums which would be beyond my budget ,

I got the 501s with 30mm rims from Merlin as direct replacements for spesh cxp 22s with unbranded hubs. (Currently out of stock) I think they're much better. I've done about 3000 miles on them, some of it in quite crap weather. I've just regreased the rear hub, but the front one is still running well. Very pleased at the price. I paid around £119 but got a free pair of tyres flung in.
