Best type of shoes for flat pedals?

I currently use a pair of DCShoes trainers that are pretty rigid, yet light. Seems to work OK, but is there anything more specialised? Not interested in system pedals for the forseeable future, so this is pure' what's out there?'

If you want actual cycle shoes then things like the Five Ten and other similar shoes are designed for flats.
I completely agree, FiveTens are amazing. I went from SPD-SL to flats and then bought these and my average speed remained the same. There’s no point me or Crackle constantly agreeing with each other anymore as it’s becoming clear we’re brothers from another mother as our thoughts are seemingly identical.

This is a worrying direction you've now taken.

Were you both smacked by the ugly stick or was Crax just unlucky?

Steelies. In fact I don't own any other shoes as they are so perfect for everything. Except beach holidays.

I have taken to cycling barefoot in crocs in the rain though which is greatly preferable to wet feet.

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
MuddyFox bottom of the range cycle shoes for £30.
I don't use clips or straps , but find them comfortable. Good solid sole on them for on the bike, and not too bad for walking in.

Had them. Wouldn't buy again. Water comes in up the cleat blanking plate screws by hydraulic action and the uppers crack along the toe flex soon. You might as well be wearing bath sponges on your feet if it rains.

Lonsdale Leyton shoes from the same shop are better IMO,assuming they've not yet messed them up like they seem to most brands they buy.
