I hate to say this but I consider Halfords laquer to be amongst the best single packs out there, in fact all their rattle cans work well if you have prepared properly, and of course apply correctly.

I taught spray painting for a while and have been lucky enough to have tried and tested a lot of brands.

Personally even with my skills and equipment I would let somebody else do it.

Car paints are fine if you use twin packs, aerosol are single pack and are not as durable by a long shot.

Yeah but the question is 'Whats the best paint' for a bicycle, the best frame builders use enamel

I don't see why you'd use car paint, enamel paint is very thick and hard wearing, I guess thats why its the best choice for bicycles

Saying that, this is my knowledge from many years back, maybe things have changed?

Your last line is I feel correct. Although I am sure some stuck in the dark ages may still use enamel there are more using twin packs.

2 pack paint is pretty hard wearing and with "car paint" you can have any colour/finish you want.

Do you use 2 pack? Not easily available in aerosol, personally I have full water based scheme here at home.

Not on bicycles; done some panel spraying. The aerosol is pretty expensive at £18 + P&P but my thought was that you can get whatever colour scheme you're after then clear it with this and you have a pretty decent finish.

Water based paint is 2-pack (paint & hardener), isn't it, just using water instead of thinners?

No it is a water bourne pigment , you do thin it but not with water funnily enough. No hardener in it as it dries by the water evaporating off. You do though have to use a twin pack laquer over the top.

Even so called solid coloured cars will be a wb base coat followed by a laquer coat.

Water based is not good for you to breath.
