Hi,

i want a road type bike but worried they wont be comfortable enough for longer slow riding. Im 6ft 2" and around 17stone. I'd like a sportive type road bike as they are sat up a little more than a out and out roady.

Can you put panniers on a sportive? Id like to spend 1k max, hopefully only around £6-700 ideally. Then I'd like to kit it out, computer, some small panniers or rear bag, just for general stuff and mudgaurds maybe.

any ideas/thoughts?

Have a look at Giant Defy and Ribble Training bikes. You won't get a bike that's described as a 'sportive' bike for £600-£700 cos manufacturers know that these bikes appeal to mamils

There's a KHS that got a great review in Cycling Plus - about £750 I think. I've had a couple of their MTBs and am a big fan.

Not a humongous amount I wouldn't think. Audax bikes are designed for riding very long distances in comfort and will typically have triple chainsets and probably eyelets for mudguards. Sportives are typically ridden over shorter distances with more of an emphasis on the time element and so are "sportier". Probably with double chainsets and no eyelets. But to be honest, I don't know what real difference in the frame geometry is between them. Which is what really counts on how a bike feels/rides. Bottom line is, you could happily ride a sportive bike on an audax and visa versa.
