Just watching the Vuelta this evening reminded me of the fantastic cycling in the Serrella mountains, northern Alicante provence around Castel de Castells. The roads are so fantastically good in spain, and the drivers so well behaved.

It's unlikely I randomly found cycling heaven, so where is the best cycling in Spain?

Last year, myself, @rb58 & @Trickedem cycled the Sierra Nevada mountains. We flew to Malaga and stayed with a fantastically, friendly company called Vamos Cycling.
We did a 300 mile round trip of the mountains including climbing the Pico De Valeta which is the highest paved road in Europe. A 30 mile climb to 11000ft.
One of the other mountain passes in the region is called The Goat Road. It was absolute cycling heaven. I don't think I have cycled better.

As you quite rightly say. The standard of car driving in Spain is second to none. Probably the best in Europe by far. the roads, a dream. It was cycling heaven, really.

I've cycled it from top to bottom but I keep going back, I fly out the 14th Oct to do Malaga-Cadiz-Seville. It's such a relaxing place to ride, I still feel bad about the times I gave the finger to car drivers who were just letting me know they were approaching.

Nice! Once I get the urge to ride the Alps and Pyrenees out of my system (although that may take a while), the Pico de Veleta and other Spanish peaks and cols sounds like a nice option.

I am looking for a place to cycle in Europe in November.
Do you mean you are Cycling from Malaga to Cadiz to Seville?
If so, any further information will be greatly appreciated.
What bike?
Camping or hotels?
Route?
Ok in November?

I'm back in that exact area for the fourt time in 2 years in October. I've yet to find a better area to spend time in a bike that avoids the high mountains.

I would like to try northern Spain and do the hard stuff like angliru and covadonga.

The best climb I've done is the Stelvio Pass.

I'd happily buy a house there but the Mrs wants to travel more widely than I do.

Jealous of your Stelvio experience!
