Just bought a road bike after a 10 year lay off.

My Decathlon sports shop has a decent range of gear, anybody have anything good to say about their stuff?

I'm only a leisure cyclist. My last stuff was all Halfords Dirt Monkey and a pair of Shimano SPD shoes.

The pedals are Look ARC, the cleat is different to the 2 screw SPDs I used to have.

I'm also after a good basic cycle computer and a pump.

I have decathlon cycle shorts (the £10 ones) and a fe running/walking tops from there, which work well for me.

I also have a bike from there and really like it, which may not help with the components, but in terms of their own branded stuff, it seem to be good quality, and a good price.

Cheers
Steve

Check out the "Lidl but often" thread (in Accessories and Clothing ) for discussion on a cheap but good computer (£20).
I bought 2 with HR monitor and several other features.

Pumps, I always use Blackburn, but I'm an MTB'er

Lidl stuff is just as good if it's still there.
Saying that I have 2 pairs Padded Shorts £10 ones, a Top and the Jacket - Total cost £50.
Pedals - Try the M520 (E Bay High on Bikes £13.95)

+1 for decathlon (I am an ex-employee, so maybe a little biased) but i can honestly say from dealing with product returns day in day out, the cycling equipment is by far the best in terms of design and build quality (it got the least returns) and the kalenji clothing is best for fit and price...when buying clothes it's best to go a size bigger (we had a lot of angry women bringing clothes back, we did a very "scientific" test by laying decathlon items over 'branded' clothing and in every case decathlon came out a size lower than stated on the tag)

Best buy in store - bTwin cycle shorts (£6 cheap enough to have one pair for every day of the week) and kalenji running socks, very supportive, £2.50 for 3 pairs, (great for cycling)

If you are lucky enough to live near a Deckie, get in there.

I have 50+ items from there and almost all is stunning. Cheap MTB shorts were never my thing, but everything else is excellent. I have a Kalenji lightweight running jacket almost identical to a Montane Featherlight but under half the price.

I got Shorts from Decathlon - Still going strong. Jersey is ok and Jacket is fine.
Lidl - Got 2 Jerseys - Very good - One is sleeveless so ideal for under a long sleeve Top.
Also from Lidl - Long Trousers and Long Sleeved Top - Ok ish - Not the best fit but hey ho.
Lastly Lidl £7.99 Jacket - Both pockets zips broke after using them about 3 times so I keep this at work for a Rain shower jacket as it has a hood.

Also bought a £12.99 Cycle computer from Lidl - Good with Heart rate monitor - 2 months old still going fine. Has a backlight but this is rubbish !

Try Sainsburys for a cycle comp.

Picked up a wireless one there about 6 month ago for about £5.00 never had a problem with it - although it doesnt have a backlight, and some of the functions are not exactly obvious to use.

I whent there, thought it was the promise land but NOOOOOOO it was just a lie, cycle computer was total bunk, allan key fell to bits when i took it out the packet and as for the lights ARRRRRRRGH think it's still bouncing along the road, whent to cycle surgery and got my self a cateye set of lights and spedometer. Cat eyes a blooming brill i could light up the moon and the speedometer was a sinch to set up. Sorry chaps but me and decathalon are over

Depends on your definition of budget I guess. Stuff doesn't come much cheaper than Aldi/Lidl and some of it does the job, albeit without much in the way of style or luxury!

I like Decathlon stuff too, but have not actually bought any of their cycling gear. For the quality of the stuff I have from there (casual gear mainly), I can't complain about the price.

Don't overlook the dhb range from Wiggle either. Good stuff at good prices.

You can also pick up very competitively priced name gear in Evans' sales; they can't be far away from starting.

I'd defo buy from decathlon if they had a shop up here in scotlandshire, but alas they dont

Give it...ummm...maybe 10 years!

Well it all depends, when i worked there there was 3 stores in the country, romford just getting ready to open, theres now 6 stores.

Scotland would be an ideal place for a decathlon, with all the outdoor sports it offers.
