Hi, whether it is cars, motorbikes or bicycles I love bagging a second hand bargain.

Originally I had planned to buy a Btwin Rockrider 340 because 1. It is far less hassle than buying second hand and 2. I can spec the frame to the correct size for me. and 3. I can get it delivered.

However, from browsing eBay £200-£300 can get you one of the premium brands second hand. Assuming they offer delivery that is!

I have compiled the following list:

Giant
Specialized
Trek
Saracen
Marin
Scott
GT
Cannondale
Carrera
Boardman
Btwin

Any brands I have forgotten? I am after a hardtail front susser with disc brakes, I don't mind if cable or hydraulic. Oh yeah and it must have an aluminium frame and quick release wheels.

I am trying to find a broad range of different brands here, on eBay I am setting frame size filters price filters and specifying used only but it does get clogged up with budget brands still.

There's a couple of brand that seldom come up on eBay that I personally like, such as

Canyon (Not sure where they come from)...DE
Rose (DE)
De Rosa (IT)
Basso (I love basso bikes) (IT)
Bottecchia (IT)
Willier (OK, you do see these, but not as often as I would like) (IT)
Cinelli (IT)
Vitus (UK)
Mekk (UK)
Ribble (UK)
Planet X (UK)

Some of these are quite high end, but some do make entry level road bikes.

There's plenty more brands too, I just got tired of typing

But you are after a hard tail, so my list is all wrong!

Right, my budget this month is £150. Despite everyone saying "go second hand, you'll get much better value". Well true, but in my experience from browsing for the last couple of weeks, the big brand bikes are about £200-£300 second hand, while the few big brands that are at that price second hand are roughly the equivalent of a Btwin Rockrider 340.

Like this Scott Veil for instance:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122036618...f4e7fdb268f&bu=43643812582&cp=1&sojTags=bu=bu
Googling suggests it is a model from 2001! Practically the dark ages in terms of bicycle technology.

So between this and a brand new Rockrider 340 which one would you choose? And how much should I pay for the Scott, bearing in mind it's condition?
