They probably would. Always remember 'Ice cold in Alex' whenever Carling is mentioned. Apparently they had to use the real thing as nothing else is quite like beer on film. They all ended up drunk after lots of takes.

I thought that too, perhaps that's why it has a 4 year guarantee,it won't break cos you can't ride it!

I keep an eye out for an original Coventry built Rudge but so far not found one

Near me there's a wall painted with two adverts from the 40s, 50s,60s whenever. One is for a "Rudge, Britain's best bicycle" and the other is for a "Humber, the aristocrat of bicycles". Actually the Rudge one is now covered over by a plastic banner for the local BMW garage, such is progress.
