Best bike for comfort, upright seating position?

Hi Guys

I'm looking to purchase my first road bike for general use e.g. weekend rides, occasional commuting. I've tried a few for size in my local store however everyone was too much of a stretch to the handlebars apart from a 52 (I'm 5,9) Kona (can't recall the model) which had the bars angled slightly back towards me. Having a look at other bikes online the Dawes Horizon looks much more comfortable however I would never utilise the racks etc so I was just wondering what you considered the best road bikes for comfort / upright seating position?

Thank you

Darren

Many of the city hybrids / flat bar road bikes have a somewhat upright position. Try the Specialized Cirrus or Genesis bikes. In fact, try a fair few bikes...

I have just ordered a Claud Butler Legend. It is a very comfortable Hybrid. I like to do a fair distance and it seems set up to do the biz.
Front sus. with lockout, seat sus. adjustable Handlebar, 24 gears and other add ons.
Have a look.

I commute and run around on a Trek 7200 hybrid (a few years old). Nice and upright (i'm a martyr to my back) and it has an adjustable rake on the head-set which i have cranked all the way back.

Welcome to the forum Darren. Just bear in mind that what feels a long stretch now may only feel so because your body is unaccustomed to the position. Just ensure you take advice from a reputable local bike shop (lbs), because you don't want to end up with a bike which is too small, but which felt comfortable for the ten minutes you spent on it before buying.

Just an update, I got to ride a few bikes yesterday thanks to John at Spa Cycles in Harrogate (great guys) and the Dawes Galaxy feels like the right bike but in a smaller size to the 54. Reading online it looks like Dawes will do smaller sizes in the 2010 range so I think I'm going to hang fire until then.
