Best base for road cycling in Sardinia

I am looking for some advice on where the best place will be to base myself for a forthcoming road cycling training trip to Sardinia. Looking for somewhere that is close to both mountains and sweeping coastal roads if possible.

Years since I've been there but IIRC we started at the airport town in the north and worked our way down to the airport town in the south (I think there's only two airports on the island. It was supposed to be all coastal but after a couple of day road closures meant we had to leave the coast and go into the mountains. Rather than one specific place that might be an option ?

Hi, the best way to do a grand tour of the north Sardinia is to land in Alghero and start cycling to the north doing a loop reaching the villages of Mores, Posada, Olbia, Castelsardo (beautiful!) and come back to Alghero!

It's long been in my mind to cycle there, so I mentally logged it some time ago with a view to getting some advice one day!
