Never liked Hinault, too French and macho. And he royally screwed Lemond out of a TDeF win.

Did he? He tried his bestto beat Lemond in 86 but Lemond managed to win. Prior to that Hinault was definitely team leader and so Lemond had to ride for him.

Seemed perfectly charming when I spoke to him in the Tour village in London last year.

But then the Tour does employ him in a PR/ambassador-type role.
