Firstly, other projects came along which took precedence (a Victorian tricycle for instance). Then I had to find the correct period parts (it came to me modified with 80s equipment). Once I'd found the parts, I could rebuild. As I wasn't sure of the best set up (for me), I've tried different bars, gears, saddles, brakes, etc. Hence 10 years.
The images shown above were taken when it had a 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub (K-6). Since then, I've changed it to fix/free. The original catalogue page, shows it as fix free.
My pa had a Benetfink, that colour too. He bought it in 1935 with his winnings from a crossword. It was the first 531 bike anyone in Barrow in Furness had seen.
That one really does it for me... just as I was thinking I have enough bikes and really don't need any more I am now suffering severe bike envy. Looks fantastic!
